What Type of Helmet should be worn by a Rider?

Helmets are available for sale in different shapes, sizes and colors and sometimes it can be extremely difficult to choose the right one no matter you are a street biker or a racer. If you are aware of the advantages of wearing a helmet, you should definitely try anyone of them for safety purposes, but if you wish to look cool at the same time, then there can be some issues.

When you look at the main categories, you will find out that the most commonly used helmets are the full face ones. They cover you head, neck and the entire face, so that there won’t be any serious damage in case of an accident. They are worn by the Moto GP riders and people involved in other sports too. Such helmets are even important for Formula 1 drivers, who are exposed to danger because of the design of their cars.

Most of you would have seen a Formula 1 car, which does not have any windscreen, so the drivers can get seriously hurt in case any flying object hits their head. An example of this was seen during the Hungarian GP in 2009, when Ferrari driver Felipe Massa got hit on the head by a small object flying off the car ahead of him.

Although the Brazilian driver was not on a fast lap, his speed was still enough to make the impact deadly dangerous. As a result, he went into coma and took a lot of time to recover from the injury. Luckily for Massa, he was wearing a full face helmet just like the ones worn by motorcycle riders.

However, the common street bikers are not completely satisfied with the full face helmets, claiming that they restrict the movement of the riders to a great deal, thus can cause an accident. Moreover, people also believe that one cannot enjoy the weather if one is wearing such a helmet, which does not allow any air to pass through.

Secondly, there are the open face helmets, which don’t have any protection for the face of the riders. Although statistics show that chances of a rider falling on his face are very few, yet there is an element of risk involved, which is why people are not quite happy with the open face helmets. However, one thing is certain that such helmets do allow the bikers to enjoy the weather and have a better vision. Moreover, the movements are not restricted to a great deal, so it is easy to avoid any trouble.

In case you are confused which helmet to choose out of the above two and fail to come up with any decision, the best thing would be to go with the flip front helmets, which can be used in the way you like. You can keep the front side flipped backwards in order to enjoy the weather whereas you can flip the cover back when you feel unsafe.

Compared to the other two types, the flip front helmets are slightly heavier, so you might end up tiring your neck muscles of you are on a long journey.

Once you have made the final decision, you can look for value added features like Bluetooth. Such helmets are quite unique and allow you to take calls while riding the motorcycle. Overall, the choice is really up to you. There are plenty of options available and you can see them from a reputable online store like. Regardless of what opinion you create about any specific type of a helmet, make sure you end up buying one for your safety on the road!
