Tips To Make Motorcycle Racing Safer

Motorcycle racing is quite thrilling, but is certainly involves a lot of dangers for the riders. Even the smallest of mistakes could prove to be devastating for one or more racers. This has been proven in the history on numerous occasions and even the most experienced of bikers are not completely safe out there.

So, what are the steps that need to be taken in order to ensure rider safety on the track? To be honest, 100 percent safety cannot be guaranteed in this sport. Despite the riders using the most advanced protective gear, there is every chance that someone either gets badly injured or loses his life in the worse case.

The main reason behind it is the motorcycles, which are a must and cannot be excluded from the sport. They are extremely heavy and the riders are always on the limit, which is quite exciting to watch. However, an accident means that both the biker and his bike are out of control. In case the motorbike hits another rider, things can really be bad.

If you remember the death of Italian rider Marco Simoncelli, you will get my point easily. He made a mistake while taking a turn and hit a couple of other riders. This made all three of them off balanced and one of the bikes banged into the head of Simoncelli. As a result, the young biker suffered severe injuries and lost his life consequently.

Considering these dangers in the sport, Motorcycle Megastore brings you a few tips to ensure safety while racing. These suggestions are good for both the organizers and riders and can help them have quality entertainment without any dangers.

From the organizers point of view, the first thing that needs to be done is assess the track before a race takes place on it. If it is slippery because of some reason, the riders should be warned, so that they can push accordingly.

Secondly, there should be enough space for the riders to overtake cleanly. In case there is an accident and the biker takes a tumble, there should be enough gravel off the track in order to slow the fallen bike down. Above that, the walls should be covered with tires just like they are done in Formula 1 to reduce the severity of the impact.

Looking at things from a rider’s perspective, there are quite a few things to be looked after. One is to ensure whether his motorcycle is good enough for the race. The controls should be perfect and all of the parts should be functioning properly. Moreover, the rider has to be aware of his machine in order to react quickly in case of an emergency.

Knowing your limits helps you avoid any dangers. You are the best judge of yourself, so never try to do something that is not in your control. Former Ferrari driver Niki Lauda refused to race in a rain hit Japanese GP once despite the fact that it cost him the title. He knew that things were out of his control, so he opted for safety, which was the right thing at the end of the day.

Similarly, every rider or driver should know what his limits are and then hit the track. This way, the dangers will be close to zero and people will enjoy racing like never before.

2013 Moto GP - Title Bid Now Open

After the conclusion of the Malaysian GP, it appeared that the 2013 Moto GP title would go to Marc Marquez of Honda, as his rivals were way behind in the championship. The youngster was only required to finish the final three races in the top-three and that would have been enough for him to make history by becoming the youngest ever champion.

If you have not been following this year’s championship, you might be thinking that securing a place in the top-three is not an easy task at all. However, the Hondas have been the superior motorbikes this year and it is impossible for their rivals to prevent them from finishing on the podium under normal circumstances.

Looking at that, everyone expected Marquez to run away with the championship comfortably. Just like the previous rounds this year, he appeared to be strong in Australia, where the third-last race of the season was held. It was clear that he did not need to do anything special in order to finish on the podium.

However, unexpected tire wear issues during the Australian GP forced the organizers to make some changes during the race. Although this was the same for everyone, Marquez was let down by his team by simply failing to follow the rules.

Following safety concerns, the race was shortened to 19 laps and all of the riders were order to change their motorbikes on lap nine or ten. While all of the other riders followed this rule, Honda opted to keep Marquez out for yet another lap. This was a breach of the rules, thus the Spaniard was black flagged by the stewards.

As a result, the Spaniard failed to score even a single point whereas the victory went to Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo, who is now just 18 points behind the leader. This would have certainly put more pressure on the debutant Honda rider and he will have to keep his cool in the remaining two rounds.

On the other hand, the reigning world champion of Yamaha will be hoping to win the final two races in order to seal another title. He does have a great chance, as he is the only one to have given a tough time to the Honda riders. However, the latter Japanese manufacturers have been way quick in terms of race pace at the moment.

Apart from the riders’ championship, the manufacturer’s battle is also on between Honda and Yamaha. Both teams have been doing a great job and are right at the top of the table with the former having an advantage of 18 points overall.

In case Marquez makes another silly mistake or gets penalized because of his team’s actions again, things will become really interesting. However, he is still in the lead and will be confident of overcoming all of the hurdles. He will also be looking for some support from team-mate Daniel Pedrosa, who is out of the championship battle, but needs to score consistently in order to maintain Honda’s lead over Yamaha.

Is it Important to Wear Motorcycle Boots?

People often talk about wearing motorcycle helmets, but that is not the only protective gear out there. There is no doubt that there is nothing more important than wearing a helmet, as it prevents your brain from injury in case of an accident. Every year, thousands of people lose their lives worldwide simply because of the fact that they have got no protection on their head.

However, it is vital to protect your other body parts as well just like your head. According to different surveys conducted by Motorcycle Megastore foot injuries are quite common in motorcycle accidents. Some people are of the view that wearing common footwear is more than enough to ensure safety, which is not the case.

The material used in most of the common footwear is not strong enough to prevent you from injuries. Moreover, there is no grip available whatsoever, so you might end up making a mistake while shifting gears or applying the brakes. At times, this will not make much of a difference, but the situation can be dangerous when there is an emergency.

For example, you are required to brake hard after seeing a stationary vehicle in front of you. If you are able to apply the brakes at that point, you will be able to avoid contact, thus there will be no harm done. However, you will put your life at a risk if you fail to hit the brakes properly and in time. With the help of proper motorcycle boots, you will be able to make lesser mistakes and the risk will be lowered to a great deal.

Another thing that is quite important for bikers is to have waterproof protective gear. When you buy normal footwear, you will be unable to keep your feet dry on a rainy day. This way, you will not be comfortable at all and the sole of your shoe will become slippery. Once again, this situation will put your life at a risk, as you will fail to keep the brakes under control.

When you are wearing waterproof motorcycle shoes, you will minimize the danger of losing the controls and getting involved in an accident. They are not much costly and will definitely be more durable than normal footwear.

One thing most people believe is that motorcycle shoes are not stylish at all. This is an absolute wrong perception. Such footwear is available in different types and is quite trendy. There is no doubt that these boots are specifically designed for motorcyclists, but that does not make them uglier.

Imagine if you were prepared to ride a horse wearing thong sandals. Would that be the right combination? Of course not and in the same way, you have to wear special motorcycle boots if you want to look cool and stay safe at the same time.

Daniel Pedrosa ends victory drought - Moto GP

Honda rider Daniel Pedrosa ended his victory drought by claiming the Malaysian GP at the Sepang circuit, beating his team-mate, Marc Marquez and both the Yamaha riders, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.
The Spanish rider had confirmed his pace during the practice sessions, but was unable to stamp authority during the qualifying session because of the mixed conditions. Despite that, he was confident of delivering a solid show on race day, as he knew that his bike was superior to others under normal circumstances on longer stints.

However, things did not turn out to be one sided in the race, as there was plenty of action between the Honda and Yamaha riders in the opening few laps. As soon as the race began, Lorenzo got off to a flyer and came into the lead comfortably. This was one of the best starts for him in the 2013 season, but it was not enough for him to win the Malaysian GP.

The reigning world champion was unable to pull away from the rest of the field on his Yamaha. He tried his best to defend the attack from the Honda of Pedrosa, but it was only a matter of time before the latter got into the lead.

Things could have been dangerous, as the overtaking move was not clean and both the motorbikes brushed each other. Luckily, nothing serious happened and Pedrosa came into lead eventually. He had better speed and deserved to be in front this time around.

On the other hand, the second Honda rider, Marquez also continued building pressure on Lorenzo for second place. This battle turned out to be quite an interesting one, as the latter was not ready to give his position away with ease. He displayed a mixture of aggression and defense, but did not have the speed to fend off his rival for long.

Eventually, the young Honda rider managed to make the move stick and gained one place up with his team-mate ahead of him by one second. It seemed that the Honda duo would battle hard for victory in the final stages of the race, but Pedrosa was too quick and did not allow that to happen. He continued lapping quicker than his rivals and extended his advantage to almost three seconds before the checkered flag was waved.

Marquez also took the second place with ease, extending his advantage in the championship to 43 points. He looks set to become the youngest Moto GP champion on debut, but the second place of Lorenzo has certainly come under threat by the Malaysian GP winner.

The difference between the second and third placed riders is just 11 points, which means anything can happen in the remaining three rounds of the 2013 season. Veteran rider Rossi is also comfortably placed at fourth and seems under no threat from his rivals for that position. Moreover, he also holds no danger to the top-three and is out of the title race.

On the other hand, Yamaha can still win the championship battle against Honda, but the former team will have to outscore their rivals with consistency in the remaining rounds. It will not be an easy task at all, especially looking at the current performance of the Japanese manufacturers.

Finally, the organizers and fans at Sepang would have been pleased to see an interesting race without any crashes like the one in 2011, which took the life of Marco Simoncelli. Despite that, they would have been saddened at the demise of female test driver MarĂa de Villota, who had suffered serious head injuries in a crash last year that led to her death on October 11, 2013.

Due to this, motorcyclemegastore.com urges all of the young racers to keep their safety at priority and always go out with the maximum protective gear.

What Type of Helmet should be worn by a Rider?

Helmets are available for sale in different shapes, sizes and colors and sometimes it can be extremely difficult to choose the right one no matter you are a street biker or a racer. If you are aware of the advantages of wearing a helmet, you should definitely try anyone of them for safety purposes, but if you wish to look cool at the same time, then there can be some issues.

When you look at the main categories, you will find out that the most commonly used helmets are the full face ones. They cover you head, neck and the entire face, so that there won’t be any serious damage in case of an accident. They are worn by the Moto GP riders and people involved in other sports too. Such helmets are even important for Formula 1 drivers, who are exposed to danger because of the design of their cars.

Most of you would have seen a Formula 1 car, which does not have any windscreen, so the drivers can get seriously hurt in case any flying object hits their head. An example of this was seen during the Hungarian GP in 2009, when Ferrari driver Felipe Massa got hit on the head by a small object flying off the car ahead of him.

Although the Brazilian driver was not on a fast lap, his speed was still enough to make the impact deadly dangerous. As a result, he went into coma and took a lot of time to recover from the injury. Luckily for Massa, he was wearing a full face helmet just like the ones worn by motorcycle riders.

However, the common street bikers are not completely satisfied with the full face helmets, claiming that they restrict the movement of the riders to a great deal, thus can cause an accident. Moreover, people also believe that one cannot enjoy the weather if one is wearing such a helmet, which does not allow any air to pass through.

Secondly, there are the open face helmets, which don’t have any protection for the face of the riders. Although statistics show that chances of a rider falling on his face are very few, yet there is an element of risk involved, which is why people are not quite happy with the open face helmets. However, one thing is certain that such helmets do allow the bikers to enjoy the weather and have a better vision. Moreover, the movements are not restricted to a great deal, so it is easy to avoid any trouble.

In case you are confused which helmet to choose out of the above two and fail to come up with any decision, the best thing would be to go with the flip front helmets, which can be used in the way you like. You can keep the front side flipped backwards in order to enjoy the weather whereas you can flip the cover back when you feel unsafe.

Compared to the other two types, the flip front helmets are slightly heavier, so you might end up tiring your neck muscles of you are on a long journey.

Once you have made the final decision, you can look for value added features like Bluetooth. Such helmets are quite unique and allow you to take calls while riding the motorcycle. Overall, the choice is really up to you. There are plenty of options available and you can see them from a reputable online store like. Regardless of what opinion you create about any specific type of a helmet, make sure you end up buying one for your safety on the road!
